Crew Manager and Advanced Crew Manager The Crew Manager (formerly Landscape Crew Manager) and Advanced Crew Manager (formerly Advanced Landscape Crew Manager) Certification Programs, developed by The Virginia Horticultural Foundation, are offered annually at the Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course. To receive certification, Crew Managers must take a two-day course at the Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course and pass a written exam. After two years, Crew Managers are eligible to take the Advanced Crew Manager certification program. The Advanced Crew Manager program is a one-day certification program that is offered every other year; there is no test for Advanced certification, but only certified Crew Managers can receive the Advanced Crew Manager Certification. Certifications for both programs must be renewed every two (2) years by accumulating appropriate Continuing Education Unit (CEU) hours. Refer to the Guidelines for CM and ACM document for further information.
The Crew Manager program provides the skills for becoming the respected supervisor for former crew-mates and keeping client landscapes looking great. Participants increase their skills in worker and equipment safety, learn the correct use of chemicals and application equipment and earn their stripes as new Crew Managers. Horticulture Skills tracks or equivalent knowledge is a prerequisite.
To request CEUs from courses taken outside of the Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course, download the Request for CEU Credit form. At least half of all required CEUs must be earned at the Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course.
