SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM INFORMATION
The Virginia Horticultural Foundation (TVHF) is pleased to announce
the availability of tuition scholarships for college students studying Horticulture, Arboriculture,
Nursery & Greenhouse Production, Floriculture, Forestry & Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture/Design,
Turfgrass Management or a related horticultural field.
Applications must be received by October 1st, and the scholarships will be awarded in December.
TVHF produces the Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course (MAHSC) a professional, educational event held
annually during the last week of January in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Scholarships for registration and
travel to MAHSC are available enabling students and educators to attend. This can be a wonderful networking,
job-prospecting or continuing education opportunity for horticulture industry educators and students.
Tuition Scholarship Opportunities
Tom Eaton Scholarship ($2,000 one time award)
– Tom Eaton was an active and invaluable member of the Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course board.
In his spirit, the Tom Eaton Scholarship was established in 2008 to help defray educational expenses
for an exceptional college student pursuing a degree in any horticultural field. Students meeting the
qualifications listed below may apply for this scholarship.
This award includes a three-day registration
to attend the following year’s MAHSC and may include lodging or per diem for up to four days. Attendance
at MAHSC is encouraged, but not mandatory, and travel reimbursements will only be made for recipients
living more than 50 miles from the MAHSC site.
The scholarship check will be submitted directly to the college to be applied to the student’s account.
Tuition Scholarship ($1,500 one time award) – Students meeting the
qualifications listed below may apply for a $1,500 scholarship to help defray educational costs for
college while studying for a degree in any horticultural field.
This award includes a three-day registration
to attend the following year’s MAHSC and may include lodging or per diem for up to four days. Attendance at
MAHSC is encouraged, but not mandatory, and travel reimbursements will only be made for recipients living more
than 50 miles from the MAHSC site.
Scholarship checks will be submitted directly to the college to be applied to the student’s account.
Tuition Scholarship Applicant Requirements:

• Must be a college student attending an accredited university or college in Virginia
(full-time or part-time)

• Must be pursuing a degree in Horticulture, Arboriculture, Nursery & Greenhouse
Production, Floriculture,
Forestry & Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture/Design, Turfgrass Management or a related horticultural field

• Must have accumulated 9 credit hours in this major

• Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or above

• Must not be a previous scholarship recipient of a TVHF Scholarship

• Must allow TVHF to publicize the student’s name,
degree pursued and college attendance information
MAHSC Travel Grant Opportunities
Student Travel Grant – A student meeting the qualifications
listed above may apply for a travel grant to attend the Mid-Atlantic Horticultural Short Course.
This award includes a three-day registration to attend the following year’s MAHSC and may include
lodging or per diem for up to four days. Travel reimbursements will only be made for recipients
living more than 50 miles from the MAHSC.
Travel grant recipients are recognized at the opening session of MAHSC.
Educator Travel Grant – Any educator teaching courses in
Horticulture, Arboriculture, Nursery & Greenhouse Production, Floriculture, Forestry & Urban Forestry,
Landscape Architecture/Design, Turfgrass Management or a related horticultural field in the Commonwealth
of Virginia may apply.
This award includes a three day registration to attend the following year’s MAHSC
and may include lodging or per diem for up to four days. Travel reimbursements will only be made for
recipients living more than 50 miles from the MAHSC.
Travel grant recipients are recognized at the opening session of MAHSC.
