HA3     Recognizing Common Woody Plant Diseases

Woody landscape plants, essential elements of enjoyable gardens, represent a substantial investment of time and resources, so awareness of plant health is essential. In this session, participants learn diagnostic features and techniques useful for identifying important diseases of woody landscape trees and shrubs. Concepts of disease spread and landscape environments favorable for disease development are presented. Learn how to differentiate between parasitic and non-parasitic diseases of common woody plants.

HA4     Mid-Atlantic Tips in Turfgrass Establishment

This presentation details steps to ensure that turfgrass has every opportunity to succeed as a new planting. The topics include planting methods, soil preparation, seeded vs. vegetative plantings, pre-plant and maintenance fertilization, irrigation and mulching strategies and pre- and post-planting weed control options.

HA5     Watch Out for Wetlands!
Kevin DuBois, PWS, City of Norfolk Environmental Services

In this presentation, Mr. DuBois discusses how to identify protected saltwater wetlands and typical projects that require tidal wetlands permits. He also discusses violations related to landscaping and / or property maintenance that he sees most often and the potential penalties that may result for illegal wetland impacts. Copies of Virginia tidal wetlands regulations are provided.
